Gray acrylic foam specifications
Review the construction and supply options before comparing samples.
- Construction
- Gray acrylic foam with two bonding facesAcrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive with a red PE release film. Apply pressure to bring the adhesive into close contact with each part.
- Thickness options
- 0.4–3.0 mmChoose around the actual gap and assembly fit. Matching the previous thickness alone does not establish equivalent performance.
- Widths & formats
- Custom slit rolls, sheets and pre-cut partsSend the finished width or drawing, quantity, and any handling or liner requirements. Kiss-cut parts and peel tabs can be reviewed with the drawing.
- Roll lengths
- 3 / 5 / 10 / 16.5 / 33 / 50 mCommon purchasing options. Tell us the width and length together so the roll format can be confirmed.
- Bonding surfaces
- Metal, glass, acrylic, ABS and PCEvaluate the actual material and surface finish. Paints, powder coatings and low-adhesion plastics need particular attention.
- Heat & loading
- Choose for the complete working conditionsInclude minimum and maximum temperatures, time at peak temperature, load direction and bonded area. Test these conditions on the sample joint.
Choose the thickness for the joint gap and required fit. Tape and liner thicknesses, tolerances and finished dimensions are confirmed in the quotation.
Send the tape model you use now, both bonding surfaces and the working conditions. We can discuss a CT sample for your comparison.

Common applications
Applications to evaluate with a sample
Consider gray acrylic foam where the joint is hidden behind a sign, trim or panel. Check the actual surface finish, contact area and working load.

Trim & badges
Attach decorative strips and badges with the tape hidden between the trim and vehicle surface.

Signs & nameplates
Fix letters and nameplates from behind for a clean front face.

Covers & housings
Position narrow strips or pre-cut frames around covers while keeping openings clear.

Panels & metal trim
Bond trim or panels along a frame, spreading contact across the taped area.

Animated usage guide
How to Use the Tape
Prepare both parts, apply the tape and test the completed joint. Follow the pressure and waiting time specified for the sample you are evaluating.
Clean and dry both surfaces
Remove dust, oil and residue with a method suitable for the parts. Let both surfaces dry completely.
Use the same preparation method when comparing your current tape and the CT sample.
Check both surfaces, the applied load and the intended environment. Discuss overhead parts, heavy loads and any need for additional restraints before use.
From inquiry to production
How to evaluate a VHB alternative
Move from your current requirement to a tested sample and an agreed production specification.
Share the requirement
Send your current tape model or specification, both surfaces, size or drawing, and expected quantity. Include load and exposure conditions that affect the joint.
Review the proposal
Review the proposed CT tape, dimensions and sample format. Compare adhesion, movement and edge lift on real parts, including temperature and moisture exposure where relevant.
Confirm before production
Approve the sample result, finished specification and packing before bulk production. Keep the agreed surface preparation and assembly conditions for production.
Tell us the size you need. Sample availability and terms are confirmed for your request.
Frequently asked questions
Product questions & ordering information
Product & use
Is this original 3M VHB tape?
This page presents CT Tape gray acrylic foam products for replacement evaluations. These are CT products, not 3M-branded tape. 3M and VHB are trademarks of 3M.
Can it replace the 3M VHB tape I use now?
A suitable alternative depends on the original model, both surfaces, the joint design and working conditions. Send these details so we can discuss a candidate sample. Compare it on your actual parts before changing production.
Does matching thickness mean the tapes perform the same?
No. Adhesive formulation, foam behavior, surface preparation and exposure can change the result. Compare holding, edge lift and movement under the conditions the assembly will face.
Which surfaces need extra attention?
Painted or powder-coated parts and plastics should be tested with their actual surface finish. PP, PE, silicone and PTFE need a separate assessment and may require a different adhesive system.
Do you also offer clear acrylic foam tape?
Yes. The Acrylic Foam Tape range includes clear and gray options. Gray tape remains visible through a clear part; compare the clear version when appearance matters.
How long should I wait before loading the joint?
Bond strength develops after pressure brings the tape into contact with the surfaces. Use the waiting time specified for your sample and application, then test the completed joint before applying the working load.
Can I order custom widths or die-cut parts?
Yes. Send the width and roll length, or a drawing for sheets, pads, strips or custom shapes. Include units, tolerances, quantity and any peel-tab or liner-handling needs.
Ordering & delivery
What are the sample and bulk order lead times?
Samples can be prepared within 48 hours. Bulk orders usually take 7–15 working days. Lead times start when the required payment is received; for orders on deposit terms, this means receipt of the deposit. Shipping time is additional.
How is the tape packed? Can I customize it?
Standard packing is clear bags and cartons. Custom packaging and printed labels are also available. Include your packaging or label requirements with your inquiry.
How can you ship my order?
We support express courier, air freight and sea freight. You can also use your own freight forwarder. Share your destination and preferred shipping method so freight costs and estimated transit time can be confirmed for your order.
What are your payment methods and terms?
Payment is by T/T (bank transfer). Orders below US$5,000 require 100% payment in advance. Orders of US$5,000 or more require a 50% deposit, with the remaining 50% paid before shipment.
What will the quotation confirm?
The quotation confirms the product specification, size or drawing, quantity, price, minimum order quantity, packing, production lead time, shipping arrangements and payment terms. Include any sample requirements with your inquiry.
