Glass Cloth Tape for High Temperature Electrical Insulation
ChenTao glass cloth tape combines woven fiberglass backing with silicone, acrylic or rubber adhesive options for motor, transformer, appliance and high-temperature masking work. Standard MOQ starts from 50 rolls, with ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 manufacturing and 24-hour sample dispatch.
What Is Glass Cloth Tape?
A woven fiberglass carrier gives this tape stronger dimensional stability than film tapes while keeping the backing thin enough for insulation wrapping, masking and bundling work.
Glass cloth tape is built from a fiberglass fabric backing coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive. The fabric resists tearing, stretching and heat deformation better than many film carriers, making it useful where insulation, reinforcement and controlled removal matter.
For high-temperature processes, silicone adhesive is usually selected for heat resistance and cleaner removal. Acrylic or rubber adhesive constructions can be considered where temperature is lower but adhesion profile, hand handling or cost is the deciding factor.
ChenTao manufacturing fit
ChenTao supports standard roll supply, narrow slitting, die-cut parts and private-label packaging from its Dongguan production base. Batch QA documentation can cover thickness, peel, tensile and dielectric checks according to the agreed TDS.
Where Engineers Specify Glass Cloth Tape
Use glass cloth tape where heat, tensile strength and electrical insulation are more important than ultra-thin conformability.

Motor Coil & Transformer Insulation
Wrap coils, lead wires and insulation layers where fabric strength and thermal endurance are needed.

Powder Coating & Thermal Masking
Mask edges, threaded areas and metal surfaces during short heat cycles with silicone adhesive grades.

Appliance Heat Shielding
Hold insulation pads, sensor wiring and heat-zone components in ovens, heaters and white goods.

Electrical Bundling & Protection
Reinforce cable exits, harness sections and insulation points that need stronger backing than film tape.
Typical Technical Data
The table below uses conservative public-market reference values for standard glass cloth tape. Final purchase specifications should be confirmed by ChenTao sample testing and batch TDS.
| Property | Test Method | Unit | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Backing material | Visual / construction | - | Woven fiberglass cloth |
| Adhesive system | Construction | - | Silicone standard; acrylic / rubber on request |
| Total thickness | ASTM D3652 | mm | 0.15-0.18 standard; 0.13-0.30 custom |
| Backing thickness | ASTM D3652 | mm | No Backing |
| Peel adhesion to steel | ASTM D3330 | N/25 mm | >=8 typical target |
| Tensile strength | ASTM D3759 | N/25 mm | >=500 typical target |
| Elongation at break | ASTM D3759 | % | <5 typical for woven glass cloth |
| Dielectric strength | ASTM D1000 / IEC 60454 | kV | >=2 typical target |
| Continuous temperature | IEC 60085 reference | °C | 180 with silicone adhesive |
| Short-term process exposure | ASTM D1000 conditioning | °C | Up to 260 with silicone adhesive |
| Standard roll length | Order specification | m | 10, 33, 50 or project-based |
| Slitting width | Order specification | mm | 3-1240 depending on roll format |
Values are typical, not specification limits. Adhesive chemistry, liner, roll width and conditioning can change peel, dielectric and temperature behavior.
Glass Cloth Tape vs Alternative Insulation Tapes
Glass cloth tape is not the thinnest choice, but it offers a strong balance of temperature resistance, tensile strength and electrical insulation.
| Property | ChenTao Glass Cloth Tape | Polyimide Tape | PET Polyester Tape | Acetate Cloth Tape |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Max temp | 180°C continuous, 260°C short-term | Excellent short heat resistance | Moderate heat resistance | Lower heat range |
| Dielectric | Good, target >=2 kV | Very high in thin builds | Good for general insulation | Moderate |
| Conformability | Moderate, fabric-backed | High, thin film | High, smooth film | Good, soft cloth |
| Hand tearable | Usually no | No | No | Often yes |
| Relative cost | Medium | Medium to high | Low to medium | Medium |
| Best fit | Heat, strength and insulation | Thin high-temp masking | Film insulation and masking | Coil wrap and harness comfort |

Engineering Scenario - Motor Coil Insulation Wrapping
A typical process-control framework for specifying glass cloth tape in motor and transformer insulation work.

How ChenTao glass cloth tape is specified into coil insulation production
Motor engineers often need an insulation tape that resists heat, keeps tensile strength during wrapping and protects coil or lead-wire sections without stretching out of position.
ChenTao matches cloth thickness, adhesive type, roll width and liner choice to the winding process. For repeat production, narrow slitting and lot-level QA reports help purchasing and engineering teams keep the same specification across batches.
Samples, quoting and batch documentation are kept practical so engineers can move from line trial to repeat purchasing with fewer specification gaps.
